Call For Inputs: Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment at the Service of the Right to Education

Farida Shaheed, the Special Rapporteur on the right to education, is inviting interested stakeholders to submit their inputs to inform her next thematic report to be presented at the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council in June 2026.

Background

Curriculum, pedagogy and assessment together define the substantive content of the right to education. While the specific choices of what to teach and how to teach it, fall within the sovereign responsibility of States, these choices must align with the internationally recognized aims of education.

In a context shaped by rapid digital transformation, the spread of armed conflicts, the triple planetary crisis, growing inequalities and social fragmentation, the report will explore how education systems can equip learners with the skills, values and resilience needed to address and navigate these evolving realities.

How will the Inputs be Used?

Contributions from States, civil society, NHRI, academia and other relevant stakeholders will inform the report and will be posted on the OHCHR website, unless you opt out.

For this report, Farida is also seeking inputs from children and young people about their experiences in education systems and their vision of what education should be like to be fit for purpose in the XXI century. The report will be informed by these insights.
