Event Highlights: DHIS2 Annual Conference 2025

On 10-13 June 2025, the KIX EMAP Hub partnered with the DHIS2 Annual Conference 2025, organised by the Health Information Systems Program (HISP) of the University of Oslo (a KIX research grantee). The conference in Oslo, Norway, gathered almost 350 people from over 70 countries, with more than 2,000 registering to participate online.

The conference focused on sustaining DHIS2 in challenging times, reflecting the community’s commitment to innovation and scale. Across four days, conference participants discussed how the District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) is leveraged for data-driven solutions responding to some of the most pressing challenges in health, education, climate impacts, logistics, and beyond.

Given the diverse thematic areas of the conference, the KIX EMAP Hub supported the online streaming of two education-focused sessions and sponsored participants from Sri Lanka in order to attend and present their work.

EMIS: Leveraging DHIS2 for Education

  • Description: DHIS2 for Education offers a uniquely compelling solution for Ministries of Education and their development partners, combining technology expertise with long-term cost efficiency and national ownership. This session was dedicated to hearing how ministries and partners are leveraging DHIS2 and adapting to local contexts to strengthen EMIS platforms in low-and middle-income countries.

Lightning talks: Innovative uses of DHIS2 in education settings

  • Description: This session highlighted innovative uses of DHIS2 for improving education data systems and addressing the needs of out-of-school children in low-resource settings. Educate A Child, in partnership with Rwanda and The Gambia, demonstrates how integrating DHIS2 with national education and health systems enables the identification, enrollment and retention of marginalised children and youth. The Aga Khan Foundation’s work in Uganda’s West Nile region showcases the transition from fragmented, paper-based or basic data collection tools to a comprehensive DHIS2-based EMIS.

Recordings of the conference sessions are available on the DHIS2 YouTube channel in English and French, and conference presentations can be found on this year’s agenda. View photos from the event in the online album.
