Event Highlights: Launch of the Spanish Edition of NORRAG Special Issue 09 "Foundational Learning: Current Debates and Praxes"
On June 25th, the Spanish edition of the NORRAG Special Issue (NSI) titled *Fundamental Learning: Reflections and Practices*, produced in collaboration with the National University of General Sarmiento (UNGS) in Argentina, was launched. The event brought together researchers, practitioners, decision-makers, and representatives from foundations and civil society organisations, all of whom participated in a programme that included a variety of presentations and a closing commentary.
Felicitas Acosta, a researcher at UNGS, NORRAG’s regional coordinator for Latin America, and editor of the NSI 09 Spanish edition, opened the event. In her remarks, she introduced the challenges raised by the Special Issue, which calls for critical and constructive reflections on fundamental learning, framing the discussion within the Latin American context.
Contributions from authors of the English edition with a presence in the region followed: Alex Ríos, Education Specialist at UNESCO (Peru); Luz Avruj, Coordinator at CLAYSS (Argentina); and Renata Montechiare and Rita Gomes from FLACSO (Brazil), who presented challenges stemming from local experiences analysed in their articles. Additionally, the authors of two regional articles produced for the Spanish edition, Gabriela Diker (UNGS) and Hugo Labate (University of Lomas de Zamora, Argentina), focused on topics not addressed in the English edition, such as the significance of multimodal learning in contemporary culture and the risks of reductionism associated with the “back to basics” approach when discussing fundamental learning.
The event concluded with remarks from Zaira Navarrete Cazales, a researcher and professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a member of the Latin American regional network. She encouraged participants to reflect on the emerging ideas from NSI 09, emphasising the importance of challenging globalised narratives to develop situated perspectives that not only broaden horizons but also redefine what is truly fundamental today and how it should be transmitted.
El 25 de junio se realizó el lanzamiento de la edición en español del Boletín Especial de NORRAG (NSI, por sus siglas en inglés) titulado Aprendizajes fundamentales: reflexiones y prácticas, en convenio con la Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento (UNGS), Argentina. El evento reunió a investigadores, docentes, tomadores de decisiones y representantes de fundaciones y organizaciones de la sociedad civil, quienes participaron en una agenda con diversas presentaciones y una comentarista de cierre.
La apertura estuvo a cargo de Felicitas Acosta, investigadora de la UNGS, coordinadora regional de NORRAG para América Latina y editora de la edición en español de NSI 09. En su intervención, introdujo los desafíos que plantea el Boletín a partir de lecturas críticas y propositivas sobre los aprendizajes fundamentales, enmarcando el debate en el contexto latinoamericano.
Luego intervinieron autores de la edición en inglés con presencia en la región: Alex Ríos, especialista en educación de la UNESCO (Perú); Luz Avruj, coordinadora de CLAYSS (Argentina); y Renata Montechiare y Rita Gomes, de FLACSO (Brasil), quienes presentaron desafíos de experiencias locales analizadas en sus artículos. También participaron los autores de dos artículos regionales elaborados para la edición en español: Gabriela Diker (UNGS, Argentina) y Hugo Labate (Universidad de Lomas de Zamora, Argentina), que abordaron temas no tratados en la edición en inglés, como la relevancia del aprendizaje multimodal en la cultura contemporánea y los riesgos del reduccionismo en propuestas asociadas a la “vuelta a lo básico” al hablar de aprendizajes fundamentales.
El cierre estuvo a cargo de Zaira Navarrete Cazales, investigadora y profesora de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México e integrante de la red regional de América Latina. En su intervención, invitó a reflexionar sobre las ideas emergentes del Boletín, destacando la importancia de interrumpir narrativas globalizadas para construir miradas situadas que, a la vez, amplíen horizontes sobre qué es lo verdaderamente fundamental hoy y cómo pensar su transmisión.
