KIX EMAP Welcomes Jordan and Lebanon as New Hub Countries

KIX EMAP is pleased to welcome Jordan and Lebanon as the newest countries to join the Hub. They will both join the South Asia, Middle East and North Africa (SAMENA) sub-region.

The KIX EMAP Hub is engaging with the Ministry of Education and local partners to mobilise the KIX EMAP national teams composed of representatives from government, academia and civil society. The Hub is organised into four sub-regions to provide more targeted support to the respective countries.

  • Europe and Central Asia (ECA): Albania, Georgia, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan
  • South Asia, Middle East and North Africa (SAMENA): Afghanistan (on hold), Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Maldives, Pakistan, Tunisia, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Yemen
  • Southeast Asia (SEA): Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar (on hold), Nepal, Philippines, Timor-Leste, Vietnam
  • Pacific (PAC): Pacific Island States (Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu), Papua New Guinea

Jordan

Jordan has achieved universal basic education for both boys and girls. Most children are enrolled at the basic education level, but enrollment is significantly lower at the kindergarten and secondary levels. Additionally, the massive influx of refugees since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011 has increased the demand for education and presents multiple challenges that must be addressed to provide access to education for all.

Jordan’s Education Sector Plan 2018-2025 defines national education priorities – early childhood education and development; access and equity; system strengthening; quality; human resources; and vocational education – and strategies to reach objectives. Learn more

Lebanon

For generations, Lebanon has prioritised education to build human capital, but recent unprecedented crises, including an influx of refugees, the COVID-19 pandemic, and economic instability, have posed challenges to providing quality education for all.

Lebanon’s General Education Plan 2021-2025 was developed in the context of these crises and builds on lessons learned from previous plans. It aims to support all children to complete basic education and ensure equitable access to secondary and higher education. Learn more
