Event Highlights: 13th International Conference on Raising Children in Our Times
On 15 and 16 October 2025, the KIX EMAP Hub partnered with the 13th International Conference on Raising Children in Our Times, organised by the Aga Khan University’s Institute for Educational Development. The hybrid conference was held in Karachi, Pakistan and online. Within the conference partnership, the KIX EMAP Hub sponsored a session on “Transforming Teaching, Learning and Leadership through Contextualised Global Practices”.
Day 1 of the conference featured an inaugural ceremony, two keynote sessions, a panel discussion, and a thematic session on “Voices of Children”.
Day 2 of the conference included four sets of parallel sessions, both in-person and online. Each set included parallel thematic sessions relevant to the conference’s main topic “Raising Children in Our Times”. The KIX thematic session “Transforming Teaching, Learning and Leadership through Contextualised Global Practices” featured four presentations:
- KIX research: Delivering Responsive and Inclusive Initial Teacher Education Through Design Thinking, by Dr. Takbir Ali
- KIX research: Scaling Impact of a Play-Based, Child to Child Approach to Make Pre-School to Primary School Transition Fun and Inclusive (SIPCA), by Dr. Nasima Shakeel
- KIX EMAP Learning Cycle 6: Creating Opportunities: Advancing Women Leadership in Sindh-Pakistan, by Dr. Taimoor Khan
- KIX EMAP Learning Cycle 6: Contextualising Global Practices to Empower Women Leaders: Transforming School Leadership in Punjab-Pakistan (Teachers’ Career Pathways), by Dr. Zahida Batool
The panel explored how global educational models can be adapted to Pakistan’s unique context to create meaningful change in classrooms and schools. Rather than importing solutions wholesale, these projects demonstrated the possibility of taking international best practices and reshaping them to fit local realities, cultures, and needs.
After the day’s parallel sessions, the conference concluded with a closing ceremony.
