GPE KIX publishes thematic research synthesis reports
GPE KIX published five synthesis reports to consolidate evidence and lessons learned from applied research projects supported during the program’s first phase, from 2019 to 2024. The reports in this series address five priority themes identified by national education stakeholders: out-of-school children and youth, teacher professional development, early learning, education data systems and data use, and gender equality in and through education.
Explore the full suite of resources designed to help policymakers, practitioners, and researchers turn evidence into impact.
The KIX EMAP Hub will look for opportunities to further share and disseminate these results in the coming months. Stay tuned for more information.
Education Options for Out-of-School Children and Those at Risk of Dropping Out
Millions of children and youth remain out of school, held back by systemic barriers like poverty, conflict, and discrimination. This GPE KIX synthesis report brings together evidence from over 30 accelerated education programs (AEPs) and highlights what works to reintegrate learners and prevent dropouts. It also offers actionable recommendations for scaling these solutions and designing inclusive education policies that meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
Empowering Teachers through Professional Development
Great teachers change lives! And investing in their growth is one of the most effective ways to improve learning outcomes for all students. This GPE KIX synthesis report draws on insights from 11 applied research projects across 41 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. It explores what works in teacher professional development, from peer learning and coaching to systemic support and classroom-based strategies.
Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education is where everything begins. It’s where curiosity, confidence, and connection take root. This new GPE KIX synthesis report brings together insights from eight applied research projects, including five co-financed by the LEGO Foundation, to explore what works in early learning across low- and middle-income countries. From play-based learning to teacher development, gender equity, and community engagement, the report highlights practical strategies that help every child start strong.
Leveraging Education Data for Impact
Education data isn’t just numbers on a screen, it’s what helps systems make smarter decisions, reach more learners, and close equity gaps. This GPE KIX synthesis report brings together findings from five research projects across 44 countries, exploring how countries are using data to strengthen policy, improve accountability, and drive real change. Alongside the report, you’ll find a policy brief and infographic to help turn these insights into action for governments, implementers, and advocates alike.
Advancing Gender Equality in and through Education
Gender gaps in education are still holding too many learners back. But there are clear, proven ways to change that. This GPE KIX synthesis report brings together insights from six research projects across 20 countries, exploring how education systems are working to break down gender barriers, from the classrooms to national policy. You’ll find practical strategies to promote gender-responsive policies, inclusive teaching practices, and better pathways to learning for all learners, especially those who are too often left behind.
