Education systems across South and Southeast Asia are facing increasingly frequent and complex disruptions arising from natural hazards, climate change, public-health emergencies, political conflict, social divisions and persistent structural inequalities. Strengthening the capacity of education systems to anticipate, prepare for, respond to and learn from these disruptions has therefore become an important regional priority. Under the GPE KIX Observatory for Education Resilience in South and Southeast Asia, the Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI) is organising an online consultation workshop, titled Bouncing Back and Beyond: Advancing Education Systems Resilience in South and Southeast Asia.
The workshop will provide a platform for government agencies, education institutions, development organisations, researchers, practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders from all 14 GPE KIX partner countries in South and Southeast Asia to review and discuss emerging cross-country findings on education-system resilience; examine how foresight can support preparation for future disruptions; and exchange perspectives on building more equitable, adaptive, and sustainable education systems, with particular attention to the implications and priorities for the 14 GPE KIX partner countries in South and Southeast Asia. The consultation will also help validate the research findings and identify policy directions and areas for further collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and action.
The 14 GPE KIX partner countries of focus are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam, but the event is open to anyone to attend.
